Stimson Center

The Stimson Center concentrates on particularly difficult national and international security issues where policy, technology and politics intersect. Its aim is to produce research that is relevant to policy makers, rigorous by academic standards, and understandable by the public at large. Our projects deal with regional security (South Asia, East Asia), countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and institution building (peacekeeping, homeland security, Congress). The Stimson Center has a full-time staff of 50, which is complemented by interns, visiting fellows, and adjunct scholars.

A Scoville Fellow would be assigned to work with one of the center’s senior associates or the president. In their capacity as a junior researcher at the Stimson Center, a Scoville Fellow would perform a variety of duties including:

  • Assisting with implementation of research/advocacy projects that advance knowledge, debate and policy-making in specified areas of national/international security;
  • Monitor and evaluate developments in the area of work;
  • Track news developments in issues area and flag key information;
  • Conduct, assess, and summarize research;
  • Summarize findings from meetings and assess applicability to project work;
  • Evaluate and suggest areas or new components to research that are designed to
  • advance the goals and objectives of the project;
  • Identify and evaluate ways in which the project can better utilize technical
  • resources for outreach and information gathering;
  • Proofread and copy-edit project publications;
  • Act as liaison to project committees and external audiences;
  • Assist with prospective funder research and preparation of funding proposals and
  • follow-up reports;
  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, press conferences, seminars and other special
  • events;
  • Maintain project web-site and Salesforce lists;
  • Coordinate media outreach including mass mailings, fax blasts, and information
  • requests; and
  • Draft written correspondence and documents including but not limited to issue
  • brief, press releases, analytical pieces, and articles for the web.
