Current Activities: Powell is a Science and Technology Advisor at the United States Space Force. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan in Climate and Space Sciences and Engineering in 2024. His research explored novel sensing concepts to observe Earth from space. Charlie is currently on sabbatical from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), where he works to develop environmental satellites. Previously at NOAA, Charlie served in a number of policy roles, including advising Senate-confirmed appointees on the agency’s sea-, land-, air-, and space-based observatories and downstream product lines.
